Well, January sure did fly by in a flash. Despite the literally insane political climate right now, I am loving 2017 so far. I think I'm slowly learning that, sometimes, you need to take a few steps back to assess your direction before you dive back in.
One of my goals for 2017 is to keep this personal space more up to date. I've toyed around with what I want this space to look like (deleted numerous posts) and for now, I've decided to let it be organic.
Last week, I had a lovely conversation with an old friend about listening to ourselves, or lack thereof, and how despite our efforts to ignore our intuition, sometimes life just flat out hands you what you really need.
Oddly enough, the universe handed me what I needed this week. The last few weeks, I've been feeling stressed and anxious as if I just needed some time to slow down. This week, my body said, the time is now. I spent the week in bed with a cold - turned - allergic reaction - and accumulated more sleep in three days than I did all December. Honestly, it was exactly what I needed. I'm feeling ready to tackle next week and this month head on!
For me, February is the perfect time to get organized. A few highlights I'm looking forward to:
Spending Valentine's Day at the new Gray Hotel. They have graciously gifted us a lovely evening on them, and we are very excited. Truthfully, our Valentine's is normally spent with pizza and PJs, so this is a nice treat! I'm also a big fan of Kimpton Hotels, so I'm excited to see this one and all it's beauty.
Going home for a weekend, and meeting my mom's new cat: Leenie. I'm still in awe that she actually adopted a cat, but I'm excited to meet her. A good reminder to #AdoptNotShop Especially older cats and dogs who often go without homes.
More quiet Saturday mornings. There is nothing I love more than waking up early on a Saturday, while Connor is still asleep, and enjoying playing around on Pinterest while sipping on some hot coffee. It's honestly the perfect start to my weekend.
Finish all the books that are currently stacked on my night stand // Thinking Fast and Slow, The Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao, Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking, and In the Country We Love: My Family Divided. (Why did I choose all the books over 300 pages?!)
Connor and I are both partaking in the Book Riot 2017 Read Harder Challenge and are loving it so far. It's really nice to be able to share in the stories together, and read books that are outside of our comfort zones.
In February, I need to also create the backbones / outlines for a few big projects. One is the foundation Connor and I are starting: Changing Summers. The other is the outline for an upcoming book. (Say what?! Yes, it's true.)
Lastly, I want to spend more time working on the scrap book that Connor and I started (and stopped) many years ago.
What about you? What are you working on this month?
